Letters to the Author

Dear Ken,

Your book is excellent. I could not put it down and have read it many times since. I was in Southeast during the time frame  you wrote about and recall most of the events and almost all of the people you mention. Southeast Alaska offers a unique environment and has been unforgiving to many. In many situations during my twenty five year tenure, I was often reminded of the Robert Service poem: "I have clinched and closed with the naked North, I have learned to defy and defend; shoulder to shoulder we have fought it out -- yet the wild must win in the end."
If one is to challenge Mother Nature on her turf, you must be a quick learner, be an expert at your endeavor and have a guardian angel looking over your shoulder. You, my friend, are a special person that has accepted the dare, defied the odds, and lived a life others dream about. Thanks for allowing us to share many of your life's experiences. You certainly deserve the title, a true Alaskan.

Sincerely,

Earl Mickel, Beach Lake, Penn.
